ARJUN VAGALE
For Arjun Vagale DJing has never been about choosing a few tunes, it's about
understanding the feelings of a group of people and taking them to that special
place. Through his unique track selection and mixing ability he has succeeded in
becoming a force to reckon with in the house music circuit and has constantly
raised the bar. With his phat baselines, dreamy melodies and his use of the
ground breaking Ableton Live software with various controllers, he has set new
standards within the electronic music circuit.
Starting young at an impressionable age of 16, he founded DJ FAC 3. This trio
played for many parties in Bangalore, while India evolved to the global House
sound. Owing to his unfailing ability to mix different sounds and genres he
earned his first residency at Zebra Crossing in Bangalore. To explore new
avenues he moved to Delhi in ’98 and was immediately a part of Sound of Music
and had a small but exclusive Club, Someplace Else @ The Park under his belt.
After winning the 1999 DMC World DJ Championship, Delhi, he made a mark for
himself and soon enough he was playing at the biggest and hottest clubs. He had
a year long stint at “Float” @ Parkroyal, which was the finest club in town at
that time.
In Dec 2000, he had the opportunity to visit Calcutta, where he eventually took
up residency at one of the city’s oldest clubs “Anticlock” which had a large
following and patronizing crowd. He headlined many events playing alongside
Asian Underground Hero State of Bengal. Later that year he joined the “London
Pub” @ Golden Park Hotel, which he helped, install and promote. This club
established itself as a venue to promote the more underground house sound. After
spending a year at SAE, Singapore he returned back to New Delhi, India in 2002
and was offered residency at the “Fashion Bistro” @ 1 MG Road and later “Djinns”
@ Hyatt Regency, New Delhi. Next was a 2 year residency at one of the biggest
venues in New Delhi, “Q’ba” which got much recognition for its grand ambience
and unique music policy.
From playing with legends like Judge Jules and Brandon Block to Blue Amazon and
DJ Quicksilver, Arjun is on the forefront of the electronic music movement in
India. Mega event like the Bacardi Blast and signature underground nights is the
platform he uses to help push the House/Breaks scene onto a larger audience.
On the production front, apart from scoring music for over 15 of India's top
Fashion Designers at the 2004 and 2005 India Fashion Week, In mid 2003, he
released a house re-mix for Shan’s club hit “Bhool Ja” on Virgin Records and
arranged the background score for a documentary film called "360 Degrees" based
on DJ's in Delhi. He is also the co founder of the Electronic band “Jalebee
Cartel” along with production partner Ashvin Mani Sharma, and in October 2004
they released an album on Music Today entitled “Chalte Chalte” which reached
No.3 on the Radio Charts and remained there for 6 weeks. This was under the
project name Loop. They also have a video of their title track which was aired
on all major music channels. Acclaimed producer Cheb-I-Sabbah also asked Arjun
to re-mix a track from his new album, La Kehna, titled “Bnet” .His remix of
“Raanjan” by the Midival Punditz also got much praise and is doing the rounds in
the underground club circuit in India.
He today runs Jalebee Productions, When asked, he says “this is just the
beginning…”
