DJ Harsh

Harshverdhan Puri (aka DJ Harsh) was born to Indian parents in the winter of 1983 in New Delhi, India. Although him and his family moved to Antwerp, Belgium only weeks later, Harsh went on to finish his middle and high school in India. Harsh started listening to a lot of music in his early teens and was able to develop an international taste thanks to his vacations back in Belgium. After finishing high school and just turning 17, Harsh bought himself a pair of turntables and started abusing his (and his neighbours) ears mixing house and trance tunes day in and day out.

In 2001, Harsh decided to go to the US to pursue a degree in electrical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While he was there, his taste in music developed further and started to focus more around progressive house and breakbeat. He established himself as a well known DJ and promoter having numerous residencies at various local clubs/bars. He hosted a weekly show, “Melodic Sessions” on one of Madison’s most popular radio stations, WSUM 91.7 FM for two years, where he featured established and upcoming local DJs. The concept of “Melodic Sessions” also went on to become one of the most longest running and successful club nights in Madison.

Inevitably, the next step for Harsh was to dive into production and create an identity for himself on an international level with his own music. And so, the year 2005 saw Harsh spending way too much time in front of his computer producing original music. Most of his productions tend to incorporate forward thinking house, breakbeats and electronica fused with a unique ethnic and spiritual flavor; Harsh believes he owes this to his cultural experience while studying in India. After a year of producing, a collaboration with International Sin, “Rise” led to a release on Mining Vinyl Records in early 2006. This was shortly followed by several new tracks getting signed to labels such as Pure Substance Records, Dubcoast Records, Segment Records and Ambersound Recordings.

Harsh has now moved back to Antwerp spending more time writing new tracks and working on various production projects. Be sure to expect some great productions from this 23 year old DJ in the next couple of years…this is just the beginning of a rising star.
